The linkspan is 95% installed now (just the attchment of the fender to go) so I'm currently in rather a happy mood (helped by the gloriously sunny day we have down here ... I'm in short sleeves outside!). The boss is pleased because the linkspan went in without any hitches (another good thing) and I'm away drinking beer this weekend (a very good thing) ... all these good things must be equalled by a bad thing surely so hopefully its just the cancellation of our outward stopover in Singapore.
With the installation of the linkspan it was all very calm and relaxed with no last minute panics and waving of arms, maybe its just because thats the dutch way of doing things, but I think more to do with we've got an excellent Linkspan contractor here. One of the things that most impressed me was how the managing director of the dutch company was helping move things out the way and holding onto the ends of ropes to help his workers do what was needed. I wish this was something I saw more often but alas we don't, I think his employees have a good respect for him and all seem happy to work for him, which in the long run must please him. So bosses out there take this advice and maybe your employees would be happier ...
Also following on from Mad's comment about the suits on 3rd April... I think I'll have to ask Dr T if he impressed with the fact I have business cards? I think the answer is likely to be that he's not particularly impressed by a small bit of card even if some people are. (Hmmm thinks of old horrible principal Engineer who wouldn't let us have them as he felt it would give us power .. so if a contractor wanted our contact details we had to scribble them down on a bit of paper and hand it to them ... not very professional if you ask me!). If you feel the need to be impressed I can let you have one of my cards (who's best use so far has to be used for making notes of alchol prices in the ferry tax free and a mini plan of the layout of two double manholes)
