Easter ...
The Easter weekend and its lovely Bank Holidayfest, meant we headed back to my homeland for some good cooking and a spot of culture.
Cooking highlights were provided by mum with yummy pork in a tomato sauce on the Saturday followed on Sunday lunch by our Easter requirement of Lamb (Welsh) with onion sauce (are we just strange? But its really yummy with lamb) and roasties.
Post lunch amusement was the test erection of my highly expensive (I jest, it’s a £7.97 value tent) tent for GM. At that price I don’t care if the racoons eat it, and I if it’s still in a decent state at the end of camp I’ll hopefully swap it for some decent badges and free up shopping space! It’s only a single skin tent in the style of the basic eurohike domes but it’ll be OK for summer camping. A whole 8 (not very good) pegs are used to hold it down (1 at each corner and 4 guylines). Mind you I was not happy when my BIL decided it would be funny to remove the poles whilst I was still in the tent …. But Dr T has photographic evidence of the deed! Otherwise a good tent for the (lack of) money.
We were due to go over to Planet Thanet for a beer fest on the Sat, but fortunately we checked the website Sat am for location etc. and found that they had drunk the bar dry the previous night, so no fest :(.
Monday saw us do a bit of culture with Cider/ Beer purchasing & Lullingstone Roman Villa (last visited by me aged 13ish and I didn’t remember it being marvellous), improved with EH wands (which we didn’t have with the school trip) but still not really worth the £3.90 admission if you had to pay (Dr T has EH life membership so I get in free!), but it was good for a picnic afterwards. As it was just down the road from my sister we also popped in on her for use of decent facilities and milk at Sainsbury’s which is pretty much next door … (in the time it took us to get out of the car park space, she was half way home!!).
The evening was a bit of tv catch up, although the rector had done an an ickle bit of a spoiler for Dr Who in the Easter service sermon (far better I think than Rowan down the road at the Cathedral who was taking 'The Da Vinci code' as his reference). The Rector is a film lover and Star Wars has featured in a couple of sermons as well (my sister & BIL's pre wedding stuff featured film talk more than wedding talk it seemed) .. he was going on about story telling/ and christ like figures in modern dramas; the opening bit made you think he was talking about the easter story, but instead of Mary Magdalene & Jesus he was talking about Rose & Dr Who.
So a good break, but alas I had to return to work this morning :( and the schools are back so Brownies tonight …
Card making been in process as I have a table top sale on Sat at the church where the Brownies meet, hopefully it brings in some money from outside the usual circle.
