A Plan coming together?
Things are nicely falling into place it seems since I said ‘Yes’ to being DC, having not said yes to things I didn’t want to do (found out Tues that one of the YGs sort of dropped me in it by saying I’d consider it but didn’t want to have to sort the leader mess etc. …hence them saying OK so easily to my conditions of saying yes!). Anyway without asking I’ve go someone to take and write up District meeting minutes (who is easy to contact as she sits just down the corridor to me at work near the photocopier ;)). Hmm I can see much more co-operation happening during my incumbency as DC than the previous one who resigned; who is very apathetic about everything, bad at delegating and more importantly very cliquey … at 2nd we’re happy to share, hence we mix well with the other Guiders so I can see things being easier. The first thing on my hit list as DC is to sort out all the (well) overdue long service awards. We can’t remember any under 20years (which are done at County level) being awarded in the last 5 years! Mind you first of all I need to find the info!!! This could be easier said than done (as the previous DC did the Division Census), but I shall try to sort it out, so that the Guiders I have under me now do actually feel appreciated by those outside the unit. Whilst I don’t feel the need to flash a service award on my tab, I like it to be acknowledged that I given up rather a few years to Guiding now … so I look on it more as a ‘Thank You’ badge than a ‘Service Award’. So lots of Thank Yous are due around here (and I have a rather nice set of stamps for cards to accompany the ‘Thank You’).
Talking of cards, I have the next big selling session due on Saturday … a county Training Morning. Lets hope the sales go well! Next stop SAGGA AGM.
Also some interesting communication from ‘Brown Owl’, she now sits at a Region level and has asked me for my Canadian/ Ottawa Guiding knowledge as they are after a good contact to set up a Region trip (alas its not my region … but I know an equally au fait with Canada Guider in the Region, hmm that’ll be my sister (also a product of Brown Owl)!). Brown Owl was also informed by mum (codename: Panda) that I was becoming a DC … this of course helps Brown Owl feel old (having been a youngish 20something when I was a Brownie) which my fellow aged Guiders still in the district like to tease her about! After feeling old, she turned it around saying that obviously I was well trained! (She was the chair of Training whilst I was (young) Brown Owl back home).
