Washington DC?

BA currently have some good deals to the US, including Washington DC, which I have been wanted to visit for ages, partly to visit a friend. Alas the friend moves back to Namibia in 2 weeks so that scuppers that accommodation. Accommodation is on the pricey side in the DC area, so it would have to be Youth Hostel, which for a week would still make it just over/ around the usual cost of a flight.

… when we could have stayed with the friend Dr T was going to go, but now we’d have to pay for accommodation he’s not going. But I’d still like to go; and Dr T is pretty stubborn over going to the US, so I feel it still a good chance for me to go as the US not likely to happen otherwise. Initially I’d assumed Dr T wouldn’t be going as it was the US, but then he said he would, then later said no. So now I’m doubting whether I should go or not, my mind has changed slightly as I got all excited over exploring a new place with Dr T, only to have it dashed; so I feel in a much less excited about going to DC than before Dr T said yes as I’m sort of in a disappointment phase.

So has anybody had experience of DC, and what would it be like if I went on my own? The YH is in the downtown area of DC. I need to decide before the 6th Feb when the seat sale ends!
