One wet place for another
If you are a keen reader of the Environment Agency's floodline website, you may realise that I've been keeping some strange working hours of late (as James found out the other night when he texted me!). Its starting to drag now, so after a manic period of Guiding meetings going through the last 3 weeks, work has now replaced them with late night sessions of water watching.
There are 2 things keeping me going, the payments for the late night sessions (= spending money for this weekend) and that I leave the country for a long weekend, crack o'dawn Friday. I mentioned at work that the only way I get to escape the horrible hours is to leave the country .... and head to Amsterdam. Which lead to a few chuckles ... you're leaving High Tides and Flood Watches for Amsterdam/ Netherlands (that well known low country). Well at least the Dutch government value their coastline more than ours, they spend a significant amount of their GDP on flood defence, where as our government just keeps cutting money to coastal works.
So yes, I (and shock horror Dr T will be visiting a non-english speaking country, but heck most dutch speak excellent english, shaming us in the process!) will be joining James, and the love of his life and some others amongst the canals this weekend. Normal service will resume after the trip.
