Happy Birthday Fab!
My lovely car has reached its 3rd birthday, and passed its first MOT all OK. It doesn’t seem that the Fab (aka The Wagon/ Silver Bullet) has been giving me driving pleasure (particularly from depression of the right foot, along with 8 speakers of music) for that long. It was christened a week after purchase by Brownie Pack Holiday so went into van mode then … and 3 years later I find myself taking Brownies away in October half term and trying to sort out car stuff again (but this time instead of pick up, it was MOT). Since then my friends have changed their v. poor 307 for a Fab (in black the alternative colour I thought of), also with the 1.9TDI. I’d obviously raved about it lots, and they’ve not regretted their purchase just short of 18 months ago (the car is a bit newer than their kid…).
I think its good that 3 years down the line I still love the car as much as I did when I first got it. I think it’s going to part of the family for a good while yet. The only thing to go wrong, is that my audio for lights/ indicators etc. has stopped working … this has stumped the Skoda dealership guys (it hasn’t come up before) but it was raised under warranty so should be sorted there. But in the whole scheme of things I’m 1 of the 9 out of 10 Skoda owners who’d recommend one (heck I have already!). Gotta love that mix of Czech manufacturing (hence the Fab also gets called The Tank, its built like one) & VW engineering.
It’s made the long round trips for SAGGA meetings a breeze with its lovely drive and decent music system. We can go luxury car camping with all the stuff in the boot, and it can do a week’s touring around Kent & the Lake District again with everything in the boot. It’s been to the tip with washing machines and other stuff. Ikea runs, no sweat! Site office, done that. Only thing I’ve yet to do is to curl up to sleep with it in van mode. I suppose one day I might even have to let Dr T drive it (he better not dent it!).
Call me sad, I love my car!

Yes your Skoda is nice, but my Astra is nicer. Probably cos it's mine...
What, even with a dodgy handbrake?
I take it as a good sign that I feel nothing about my car. I just get in it and go from A to B. Mine is slightly older, and is due for its 3rd MOT soon, however unlike previous cars I'd had this long there is nothing wrong with it that makes me want to look for a replacement any time soon, meaning it's heading for being my longest serving car.
Which is just as well as the others served 2 years, 2 years 2 years 9 months and 3 years respectively.
Not a dodgy handbrake - was a very very steep hill. No-one told me you shouldn't park on a 1 in 3 slope...
