I love it when the sun shines in Portsmouth, it just always makes things much more cheery. There’s nothing better in the UK than Summer in the City (that is Portsmouth). Brighton may think it’s the “City by the Sea”, but I’d rather have Southsea (the beach area of Pompey) anyday, Brighton is so crowded compared to Southsea, and you can have just as much fun here.

Why this post? Well the sun was shining as I left work yesterday afternoon and the silver bullet (it was in bullet mode yesterday) was saying it was a warm and balmy 20C. The weather is set to stay so I think a walk along the promenade may be in order over the long weekend. Its really nice living by the sea, its 15mins walk to the nearest bit for us; you can go there on a sunny day, see the boats, skim a few stones … but half the time its just nice to know its there.

That’s why many moons ago I decided not to go home one summer so I could spend some of my free time down the beach and appreciate the best season it has to offer whilst a student. I served burgers in the evenings at a well known burger emporium (but never got a star .. almost two but just short before I left as they had only got the assessments in order finally!). It gave me money to live on, as well a few luxuries that made the 3rd year nicer! It seems a shame that the students all seem to dissappear as soon as possible so just see Pompey in the rain; that said at least it’s a better kept secret!

Roll on the summer! Hmm I’ve even got some site work when I return from my hols, just not as scenic as last summer’s (harbour entrance, you got distracted with ship spotting).

So those of you living inland with rain this weekend, hard cheese … I’m going to enjoy my sunny weekend on the south coast!

Have a look here, no drops in Pompey until Monday (so that's when I'll do a spot of revision). Although Mr BBC weather (who you can't do links for) doesn't have rain until Tuesday for PO1 :). We shall see which is correct.

Okay, okay, the sun shone, but not 'til after we'd done our harbour tour out on the water!
