Today is St George's Day which means that it was flag waving time in Salisbury Cathedral for the South West England Region Servce of Thanks and Celebration. I can tell you that your arm is hurting lots when you've had to walk 2 lengths of Salisbury Catherdral Nave, a bit of the North Transcept, waited for all the County Standards then Region (x3) & Association Standards finally you have to sing the National Anthem before you can take you standard (3 section pole with top heavy long flag attached) out of holster (no escort to help so all on feel/ luck/ nearby guider help). I've never wanted the National Anthem to finish so quick! I confess I did use my other hand (we had to carry/ hold the standard with one hand, so due to our short bucket length you do hold the flag rather than use the holster) to steady my arm a bit.

Flag waving done (phew we didn't have to process out!) it was a rather enjoyable service with a 'girl' Dean (first female Dean in the UK) and other Guidey types. Salisbury was full of Guiders (in a variety of uniform .. still hate the pajama shirt more than the andy pandies).

Out of this, using a item that the standard bearer from our cousins to the North had done we have the Standard going to Brownies Tuesday (we failed to have anything but 3 Brownies make their promise planned) and we have a Standard themed meeting.
