I'm currently chilling after spending the day (well more technically the afternoon) in the big smoke known as London. Dr T utilised his return ticket and we met up with one of his Uni friends and spent a nice time having lunch near the River on the South Bank followed by a wander around the Natural History Museum. I'd never been there before so it was all a rather new experience for me. The Dinosaurs were good although it was the actual building itself that I thought was the best bit. I loved the carving everywhere whether it be animals climbing pillars or plant decoration on columns. The dinosaurs weren't too bad either.... although they were joined by the minerals room which as we were in reminisance mood reminded me of the geology studies I did as part of my degree and the site vists to IOW {Isle of Wight}(which has all the geology of the UK on it)
We then parted company gradually (with me having to say bye to Dr T as the tube approached Green Park for me to change) and I headed for a little retail thearpy (in the form of a rather nice belt to stop my jeans falling down) 'Up West' to Oxford Street before returning back to a rainy Portsmouth.
Mind you on the way from the station I did see two fine examples of Pompey Yoof ... first version was drinking that tramps favourite of Special Brew (thinking they were really cool of course) .... followed about 5 mins later by more yoof this time smoking thinking they were really cool from their swagger .... hate to tell them that this just made them look silly ... or am I getting old & cynical? This mind you is also the reason my views towards Private Schools has changed and that maybe I might even be coming around to thinking that the 11plus is a good thing. If I had a secondary school aged kid I would seriously think about sending them to one of the private schools when you consider what the state schools produce generally around here (along with the highest truancy rate in the england). Mind you it also makes me realise how good the state schools are in Canterbury! Or is this just me getting old and not connecting with Pompey Yoof?
