What with England playing cricket in Dhaka and The Bangladesh-UK Friendship Bridge winning the International award in the British Construction Industry Awards I’m dreaming of Bangladesh once more. It doesn’t seem 3 years ago I was out there for my GOLD project .. it was such an amazing place that I would have not visited otherwise. I would love to go back and show others what a fab country it is … its more than just flooding!
The countryside is lush and green and full of vibrant colour, Dhaka is bustling and full of noise but all of it is amazing. We all came back as singing adverts for the Bangladeshi Tourist Board! It nice to live around here in Portsmouth as I’m often reminded of Bangladesh … mostly when I go to my fab local takeaway (‘Balti Express’) which has a picture what I think is the most amazing concrete structure. The National Memorial is set within The huge Martyrs Memorial garden complex (inc. 2 helipads), and made out of concrete triangles set at right angles but when looked at a distance it looks a solid structure. I’m not a lover of concrete but this design just inspired me and we were all amazed by its structure, which you can walk in and out of.
I would love to wear my sari and shamar kameez more but it frankly looks silly on me in this country!
We had so many laughs throughout the trip …. And still after 3 years I can’t look at sanitary towels without giggling! We’re all still in contact with each other and every so often get reminded of silly tings about the trip which we share with each other …. Like the chuwelry (bangles) being shown instead of blacked out on a CBeebies story about an Indian prince (linked to the above giggling incident).

Dreaming over … I must get back to work!
