Hmm currently working in a chilled manner on CAD stuff to my classical chillout CD (v.good). Not too much overly squeaky violin stuff which I don’t do being a brass lover at heart (and having a string avoidance mother, she was made to learn strings (viola), apparently she was good and got to grade 8 (with some distinctions on the way Hmph!). We wouldn’t know this as she’s never played it since uni). I like a bit of classical now and then although it does make me still wonder how I got to Grade 6 Tuba with no natural sense of rhythm?!? My mother is still amazed all these years later!
Harking back to my youth Mr Casey's blog has raised the Pope’s 25th Anniversary which reminds me of his visit to Canterbury back in ’82. I remember him landing at the rec ground up from my primary school and the popemobile. It must have been a weekend as my dad took some photos which still live in the photo drawer. One picture sticks out in my mind of the popemobile with the police outriders as a friend of my parents was one of the outriders. I’ve seen the clips of him in the cathedral where Thomas a Becket was murdered (an there’s a little plaque to say so). Growing up in Canterbury you forget sometimes how important this place is to some people, it being the seat of the Anglican Religion. I still remember going to Cologne Catherdral and my family all making the comment how it was nothing special just a dirty version of Canterbury …. we realised we actually compare everything to one of the top cathedrals in the world! Its more the case its always been there, and used as a place where you can have large services (mainly Guiding & Schools) rather than the way visitors might see it. But I prefer a church to be a centre for people to meet others and be a community rather than a place where religion is to be revered. Unfortunately pretty much all the churches around here are of the latter (and high anglican to boot). By being middle of the road and welcoming people into the church & community regardless of how often they attend is the reason my parent's church is so popular and the ones which go for hammering the religion without looking at their local community are losing members, see you don't have to be happy clappy to be popular!
My, what a deep and meaningful post this is!
