The £8.84 Meal Challenge

The money for my expenses are now being sorted for payment to go in February’s pay slip … but rather than being reasonable we have hit a £8.84 is the allowance, you’re not allowed a penny more … shame when I was trying to claim £12.26 for my evening meal in Central London from during the conference (which was an early diner special with just tap water at that!!).

Words uttered from payroll were that this was a generous allowance and its easy to have a nice meal for that … (I’m not quite sure what planet they are on … and can they tell me of the mythical Central London restaurant where this would occur, preferably in the Bloomsbury area … and I don’t want McDonalds as the reply).

So the challenge readership is to come up with an evening meal out suggestion for £8.84 all in, that doesn’t involve the JD Wetherspoon chain (as that’s the obvious solution, but as a lone female diner I wasn’t going to use the Tottenham Court Rd JDW for dinner …). Bonus points for a Central London (Zone 1) location.

…. Maybe I should of just gone to the Wong Kei and charged them for the transport as well ….

There always used to be a Chinese buffet not far from South Kensington underground station, which was all you can eat for £4. As it was while I was at uni when I last went it might cost more or not even be there no more. Was called Paper Tiger, and at the south end of Exhibition Road (on the left as you headed away from the Science & Natural History Museum).

On day 1 of our holiday we walked from St Pancras International to near Soho where we had a similar "all you can eat" deal. We walked down Totenham court road and then Charring Cross Road.

London's geared towards no-one ever walking more than 10 yards from a tube station. I walked from Liverpool St to Kings Cross in the summer. It took twice as long as it should have done due to the lack of signs telling me anything useful.
