Grrr

At lunch while in the city centre I decided to peruse the latest offerings by Clarks (soon to appear in their outlet shop down the road). Alas half the shoes are out before I even try on any … due to my rather wide square feet (blame my father there). So I walk further into the shop and reach the ‘wider fitting’ section … home to selection of shoes only it seems favoured by those who are aged 80+. I’m sure I’m not the only under 80yo who has wide feet? So why not have funky/ fashionable/ smart wide fitting shoes on offer? I’m sure on the Venn diagram the wide fit circle doesn’t just overlap on the 80+ circle.

Maybe it’s the memories of one of my first pairs of summer sandals at primary schools after watching ‘Evacuation’ on CBBC. My mother having despaired at trying to get girl’s sandals (they were all too narrow) was made to get me a pair of boys ones in half a size larger, ‘cos my feet went off the width scale on the magic shoe machine in Peter Lord… and then I see their reincarnation in the CBBC programme!

This is why Dr T dreads me having to get a pair of smart shoes with him … it is annoying and often requires the scour of a whole town centre/ shopping centre to find a pair that might be comfy.

..arrh the memories of summer, and my mum re-gluing my sister’s sandals, putting pegs (to hold sole and inner together at the toe) on for them to be left overnight on top of the fridge freezer so she could wear them the following morning after using them as bike brakes again/ destroying them.
