Bangla on my Mind ...
What with the 200 group reunion at the start of the month, the posponement of the 2005 Group a few days later and all the issues around it I've been thinking of Bangladesh a lot of late.
So I've just spent a lovely half hour/ 45mins reading and looking at a book that came as part of the seasonal post (ie Diaries and Calendars) from a Dutch Contractor who made us a linkspan (they are one of the companies involved).
The book is called "Delta voor Delta" and was set up by the Rotary Club of Gorinchem (its in dutch you need to Babelfish it) as a link between the dutch delta area and Bangladesh (a River Delta Country). The writing (in english) that acommpanies the photos brought back memories I had of the way the country runs. The photos show many things I remember seeing, as well as bit of the country I didn't. It shows real life in Bangladesh well, in absorbing photos.
Although it was sent to my team leader I've got long loan of it to show Bangla GOLDies, starting with a 2005 group member over in Southampton. It's a great guide to what to expect, and I think I might offer it as a bit of ring around the 2000 group (a la Bookcrossing Bookring style).
I've got such a happy smile across my face at the moment following the rekindling of Bangla Memories. All that going around in my head is the surprise that a book on a country I have a great fondness for and been thinking about was sent to me here at work from one of our contractors. As if often said in Scouting & Guiding Circles "It's a small world after all" ... it would seem that maybe (Maritime Civil) Engineering is that way as well.
Better stop reminising and get on with some work ....
