BNL are FAB!

Last night I visited Southampton Guildhall again to see Barenaked Ladies once more. They commenced my concert going when I returned to Pompey, with their Maroon tour in 2001. I somehow missed the last two Soton visits (due to a lack of promotion/ awareness), but I was back …

To me BNL is the reason you see music live! They showed the audience what skilled musicians they are; through the playing of many instruments (over the course of the night we had: Double Bass, Drum, Rhythm Guitar, bass Guitar, acoustic guitar, keyboards, banjo, mandolin … think that’s it). We had the Southampton Rap, which took the mickey of the people sat in the seats at the up at first floor level right at the back of the hall. I of course was in the standing area enjoying the tunes and humour!

Join the fact that they can improvise well, so when some pants landed on the stage, pants got put in the song and on Ed's head (and the end of all their guitars!). I'm still chuckling over the impro bit they did in 'If I had $1,000,000' where they said how they liked how we named towns after cheeses, that maybe if they did that in Canada the places would improve. Then Ed said he came from a suburb of Toronto known as 'Processed Cheese Singles' (its actually Scarborough) that got me giggling!

Dr T came too, along with Sister & BIL. It was my sister who got me into BNL via a Canadian Friend during her placement year in the wilds of Quebec. So watch out on the Blogless One’s flickr account … and BNL also have a flickr account (look on my contact page for stevenpage) so we might see their view of Soton (from all accounts that’s likely to be the Medieval Merchant’s House)

I’m all tuned up and happy, just gotta wait for the live CD/ download to appear on the website for replay in the car! (Well I wasn’t going to pay the price for the USB stick and then have to wait 20mins after the concert, I can wait a while for it).

‘Twas a good night of entertainment …. I shall now spend the afternoon humming tunes!
