'Twas a good weekend!

For it was Girlie Weekend! So I went a bit north and my Kiwi trip partner in crime, Sarah, went south of the Watford Gap to meet up at Ridgeway YH for a weekend in Oxford and the surrounding area. See Oxford YH doesn't have parking, besides the rolling hills of the Vale of White Horse are far nicer to look at than a railway line & buildings.

Oxford wasn't that great, as we felt that the University dominates the city so much to the exclusion of pretty much everything else. We actually preferred Wantage to wander around (the town where Ridgeway YH is to the South of). Then on Sunday we head for a short drive to the White Horse, wander up to it and then had a kite fly before a spot of lunch and departing back to our homelands.

Mind you we also had some nice time together in the evening doing some crafting, as cards and in my case mum 60th pressie were also needed. So that's where Ridgeway also scored with its huge common room/ dining room in the barn part (the rooms are in former stable blocks) and a general lack of people using them. There were people in there, but between the chimmney snug (which used while catered dinner was on), the lower part (under the snug) and the dining room with lots of decent sized tables to spread our bits on. We also impressed the warden with this as he thought we were well organised with all our bits, we just pointed out that it was a good chance to craft without the distractions of home. Mind you we had late nights due to lots of catching up chatting (along with getting engrossed with our craft!).

So all in all a very good weekend.... just gotta wait until the next one!
