A lovely weekend ...
I had a rather nice and varied weekend over the last couple of days.
It started rather nicely with a leisurely flat potter before being chauffeured by a friend to the Family C. We were doing a bit of pressie exchanging and going out for lunch all together (6 +Child), for the first time since February (that’s babies/ disorganisation for you!). We tried out the buffet Indian Restaurant in Fareham, its really child friendly (seen from Mummy Mel’s pleasure of a decent high chair), no crowding with the tables & chairs and we got to try lots of different stuff, the starter selection I felt was better than the mains, but all rather yummy. We all enjoyed feeding Master L a wide variety of fruit from the pudding area (he tried and liked lychee!), as well as his first encounter with a bit of Naan Bread … a curry monster in the making? Mummy Mel enjoyed us entertaining him so she could actually enjoy having a meal out, and not really worry about Master L. It was deemed a good success. We rolled home to the Family C’s house for coffee, chatting and Commando Crawling from Master L (along with a bit of cat grabbing). Master L is now very much a little person rather than a baby now. LOL at Ian trying to teach Master L the starting moves for Karate (some of which he seemed to them perform!!).
Sunday saw a bit of work as it was finally sunny around noon! So a bit of compass work (and a hint of sun check to totally calm and please boss), the setting out on the base for a replacement plaque on a viewpoint is sorted. We then moved back towards home, via Southsea for the Farmer’s Market (tempting smells of mulled wine & spiced cider), where some Kale was purchased and something new to try in the form of celariac .. puree form tonight with dinner? Also went via Asda where Dr T picked up some vastly reduced Cranberries to try along with a few more bits than planned (apparently pepperoni pizza is nice with a few cranberries added). Then an afternoon of turkish delight making (it’s looking pretty good, turn out and icing sugar dusting to be done tonight), it’s actually far easier to make than I thought (courtesy of Mr F-W & his cookbook) and doesn’t have gelatine in (it’s the cornflour & cream of tartar that does the jelling) which we thought it did! I might be nice and let work try some of my culinary experimenting. The evening was then rounded off with Dr T offering me a large glass of warm mulled wine to do test the nation 2005 quiz to (I got 58 out of 70, apparently that’s “Outstanding, top 1%”).

Turkish Delight turn out happened last night. We had a bit of shear failure in the centre so work have some sloped bits heading their way. The bigger issue was the lack of coating affect by the icing sugar, it just soaked into the surface ... so we've used greaseproof layers to prevent sticking. Tastewise it seems the honey is a bit too much, and the rosewater isn't as strong as made out. Also that its more slippery when warmed, so it's living in the fridge. I'm taking it into work tomorrow (xmas lunch today so decided to go with handbag for minimal junk transportation). We shall see what the workers opionion is. However pod neighbout came up with a workable solution to the icing sugar problem ... coat it in chocolate!
mmm chocolate - the cause and cure of most evil things. Well except report writing and hangovers...
