Following on from the weekend, on sunday it was Remembrance Sunday so our Brownies were on church parade (how many we actually got I find out tomorrow, I think 3 if we're lucky!). There was also a rembrance scouts & Guides Own at the rally so the odd poppy was out which made me cast my mind back to April as I was wearing my Guides NZ top as I really did my Remembrance thing back in April on ANZAC day. The conference which I was attending as GGUK was invited to be part of the big Christchurch Dawn Parade, it was the first time I've been part of anything like that paradewise as the Guides were never invited to the Canterbury ones. It was only this weekend when I saw the pictures on the news of cities around the UK that I realised that actually the Christchurch parade was probably the biggest dawn parade on the South Island. Although dawn was early for such a parade it was nice to see the dawn appear gradually during the service with the birdsong being the only noise during the 2min silence.
FYI the reason it was dawn was that the Anzacs went onto the beaches at Gallipoli at dawn in WWI.
The Guides were at the Portsmouth one but the first I heard about that fact was reading it on the intranet at work .... should I be concerned about my division's lack of communication? I think I find Rembrance Day more poiniant these days living in the home of the Royal Navy as I do, along with recent events of earlier in the year. Besides its also my 1/2 birthday so its 6months & 1 day until I reach 29.....
