Something about London Town...

I have returned from the big smoke that is London. St Paul's Cathedral is still there (and chiming the hour, every hour, even through the night ... I must have drunk enough and we had the windows closed last time, I don't remember them), as is the nearby YH. The YH is still as well located as ever (I used buses most of the time with my 'Oyster' as that's just as easy and the up and down of the underground ... but I did hop on the tube to go on the central & bakerloo line), although the breakfasts are a bit down but still OK. They still have lovely powerful showers (which is good as I'm a shower lover living in a bath only flat)

But whilst in the big smoke on my own as I was ... for Dr T is not a lover of London Town .. I pondered why I have the need for an escape to the big smoke .. and Dr T doesn't.

I think its a bit of nature/ nurture thing. London is in the genes ... but also on the nurture on the other side. My parents were students in London ... and then worked there, but moved to Kent to start and bring up a family. But bring in the generation above and my paternal side were Londoners. It took 25 years and a GOLD trip to Bangladesh to find out some of these connections. Hence why on the paternal side Arsenal is the club of choice, as that was the 'hood (although the yard was off Brick Lane)

Being in Kent for anything major it seemed you had to head up to London... Bluewater has taken away the shopping need (like for a John Lewis) ... but still many other things are still London bias for Kent.

So as my escape to London came to a close I came to the conclusion that although I don't know it I have a homing call for London every now and then ... and get recharged .. ready for another stint in the southern counties. But then is it because my parents have shared their knowledge of London along with events (like Clinical Day in Guy's Tower .. getting fizzy fluoride tablets, tooth related stickers, disclosing tablet fun along with kids toothbrushes! ... but on the flip side remembering that their Macaroni Cheese was horrible, which put me off for years!)

So whilst Dr T wants to desperately stay away from the place, I need a dose of it every now and then ... looks like I need to check diaries with little sis next time ... no chance of a Dr T!
