As my plan of the harbour with soundings hasn’t arrived yet I’m still a bit on the quiet side. So I’m doing the festive update during the day (at least that will shut Dr T up for a while!).
The Christmas period was spent with Dr T’s family so we didn’t have far to travel on Christmas Eve, good job too as we spent the whole ½ hour of it travelling through a very heavy rainstorm (fast speed wipers near useless + lots of standing water/ spray). It was strange but nice to spend my first Christmas away from Canterbury … more than made up by the company of Dr T. Also had the experience of both old people (grannies) and little people (nieces & nephews) present on the day … something that has been lacking in my family for a good few years now.
Boxing Day saw travelling .. a quick afternoon stop off in the flat for pick up of walking bits and next batch of pressies and off to Kent. We decided 3 visits to the Lakes in 1 year is a bit much so didn’t go to the Brum PMA trip .. maybe again next year? Instead we tried for some walking in Kent. This ended up somewhat less than at the PMA trip with one ‘bun-eater’ walk around Pegwell Bay, south of Ramsgate. A couple of days later it was Dover to Folkestone along the North Downs Way/ Saxon Shore Way (they are the same route here). The destination was chosen for the possession of a Debenhams as we were on the search for serving spoons following our visit of the Canterbury Sales on the 27th where Dr T spent Christmas money on cutlery. Alas we seem to have chosen the popular of the so.eat series and can’t find 'calm' in other places.
Sales shopping went down well in my family as to join the cutlery I got a new weekend holdall to replace a broken 35l rucksack. My parents however spent a bit more … on a new TV (which thanks to my sister taking car keys and turning off mobile phones to us meant Dr T and myself had to walk half the way home after borrowing my parents coats as the only car accessible was my mum’s Yaris!). Due to their Luddite tendencies they wished Dr T’s advice on AV Heaven Matters. They then purchased a Freeview box (and have far better reception than us!) for us to connect up for them…. Dr T wondered last night how they were coping since we’d left … we haven’t had a phone call yet! Added to this we finally connected up my old DVD player so they now also have a bit of an AV heaven!
New Year was quiet but nice, with us returning to Flat life on New Year’s Day leaving a couple of days to enjoy ourselves before I returned to work today, it has been nice to have long enough off and enough distractions to forget about work (so much so I couldn’t remember my password this morning having been changed just before the festive period. Opps!!).
Hmm how long will it be until my next few days leave?

We did indeed send smoke signals over North Canterbury with a Bonfire. This followed weed/ vegetation clearance and new fence installation (but being his daughter my dad wouldn't listen to my site-based advice on chain link fencing erection). Both my sister (starter of day 2 bonfire) and I were ashamed of our mother's bonfire effort as she was a Guide (back in the the late 50s/early 60s) and could get it going .... probably not helped by my non-scouting father piling it with green vegetation!
We re-taught her the pyro skils we learnt as guides! Mind you I didn't get to use my grooviest Christmas pressies of telescopic forks and a pack of marshmallows
Hmm above should say my mum culdn't start the bonfire.
As for the lack of word wrap problem on IE5 when viewing the blog without the comments bit at the bottom... I can't see how to change this having gone through all the blogger tabs. Any suggestions other than using Firefox/ Mozilla/ Netscape gratfully received by the redership!
