Oh Canada!
Eh! I'm in the land of the Maple Leaf (Toronto at that) over their national day bank holiday!
The plane arrived a bit late so I finally arrived at the YH @ 0015hrs not the 8pm ish as planned ... oh well at least everything arrived with me (although I thought my bag was larger than it is so missed it on the chute down onto the carosel (?sp) ... and only just spied it before it went past me!!
So yesterday was Canada Day and there was lots of wearing of red and Canada T-shirts of various styles. The extreme long day previous/ lots of walking/ jet lag hit last night along with some rain when the YH trip down to the walkfront for the music (and later fireworks) meant I didn't actually go and see the fireworks ... the sleep was much appreciated instead!
Its been warm here and I've been doing lots of walking about as I'm right in the downtown area of TO so it seems little point in getting a TTC (the public transit) token or two. So yesterday I walked lots exploring the downtown area and getting some food in (they have a great kitchen in this YH), its also been warm and humid so I've got through lots of Minute Maid lemonade (a weakness of mine, unobtainable it seems in the UK and on Special in Dominion ... the closest supermarket to the YH!) to keep the fluids up.
Today was a TTC daypass day as I was exploring further afield, and wanting to get to lots of places to pick up bits before they closed. (only 5 hours for shops here on Sunday... and they were all pretty much closed except the Eaton Centre yesterday). So I am now the proud owner of a Tilley hat (but not the same style as Dr T's) after Dr T's much loved purchase of one last summer when we were here. Hopefully lots of use over my stay here ... and when I get home. I also went up to ROM (Royal Ontario Museum) as their very controversal extension should have been finished I think by now ... it not, and only looks a bit more advanced than Dr T's photos from last summer. I also raided MEC, a favoured store of mine ... oh if I didn't have a weight and size limit! I saw a fab inflatable double canoe hanging up in the store earlier .... but it was limited to camp essentials (oh and maybe a treat item or two) this shop, along with a good look, a second shop is prob due at their Ottawa store. The same goes for Old Navy too ... They have some rather nice (and cheap) tops for work that are of a decent length that I don't reveal my midrift when bending over ... yeah!
Tomorrow morning I head off for camp for two weeks, if the weather stays like this (30C and humid) I won't be needing my alarm clock in the tent!!). Crossed fingers I also have all the stuff together for the presentations and sessions to run ... otherwise I get to experience Canadian Tire (seen but not shopped in before).
Enjoying myself here in TO, but its not quite as good on some levels as I don't have Dr T to share it with, but love being downtown right in the thick of things. So if you want to go to TO I recommend the HI YH.
Roll on Guelph and Camp!!! Hopefully more news from there. In the meantime check the website out particularly daily news ... you never know I might appear.

1 Comments:
It hit 30.3 deg C outside here yesterday, but not too humid.
